SSG Jay Fondren U.S.Army (Ret.) and I served togeather in the 1st Cavalry Division and supported Operation Iraqi Freedom II March ’04 – ’05 Baghdad Iraq. Jay was the 2nd Squad Leader in our COLT Platoon (Combat Observation Lasing Team). Jay and I saw our share of enemy contact while patrolling the streets of Baghdad.
The day before Thanksgiving 2004 started as any other day out on the route, but would other than. While patrolling, Jay’s section encountered an IED (Improvised Explosive Device) which seriously injured Jay.
