Having an understanding of your natural behaviors will help you communicate better with others, it will help you have a better understanding of where other people are coming from. So how do you go about doing this? The DISC Profile!
In this episode, I share with you my DISC Profile, I tell you all about what my natural behaviors are, what motivates me, and what I’m not all that crazy about.
The DiSC profile, published by Wiley, is a non-judgemental tool used for discussion of people’s behavioral differences. If you participate in a DiSC program, you’ll be asked to complete a series of questions that produce a detailed report about your personality and behavior. You’ll also receive tips related to working with people of other styles.
IN THIS PARTICULAR EPISODE YOU WILL LEARN:
My DISC Profile is 7-4-1-2 This is the Results-Oriented Profile. The highest dimension based on my response to the DISC Profile questions as it relates to my perceptions of the environment and amount of control I feel I have with that environment is Dominance (D). Not the 50 Shades of Grey kind of dominance either…
Those like myself that are strong in Dominance (or what’s called “high D’s”) like to take action to achieve the results they desire. They seek opportunities for advancement and individual accomplishment, and they often aspire to positions of power and authority. The main objectives for people in high Dominance are typically control and results, with the freedom to make quick decisions whenever necessary.
This isn’t all peaches and cream… Because I tend to see many projects as competitive situations, I may run into conflicts with my colleagues. I probably have a powerful drive to be the top performer or undisputed victor, (where’s my belt?).
My attitude may sometimes strike others as arrogant or condescending. Wow, I sound like a treat right? So what’s the point? Well everyone has positives and negatives, pros and cons, strong points and weaknesses. The difference is, I know what mine are… do you?
That’s what the DISC Profile can do for you too. We all have a natural state, ways of being when we aren’t thinking about it. Understanding what this is in you will allow you to shift as needed and help you interact with those around you more effectively.
